Inspired by the words of Gil Scott-Heron, „The Revolution Will Not Be Televised,“ this work asks: Why don’t we turn the TV off? It invites the viewer to delve into a playful, colourful universe through their humanity.
While Heron titled his song, „The Revolution Will Not Be Televised“ in the context of Black Power, saying that the true revolution starts in the minds of Black Americans, these works enable our inner revolutions to unfold. In a time of instant connectivity and short-lived interactions through phones and other media, these groups of works invite us to pause amid the bustling streets of Köln-Kalk. With the window as an enabler of connection, we have a chance to be surprised, to laugh, to imagine. To have the TV off and our hearts on.
Victor Silberstein (Barcelona, 2001) is an artist whose practice leans on the unknown. Almost always unaware to what is going to come out, he paints from a space of uncertainty, allowing himself to be surprised by the mere joy of creating. His colourful and spontaneous universe invites us to be swayed away, and that beyond these feelings and experiences, we are still part of something bigger and deeply interconnected, something that could be called Love.
